Bucky Covington recently told media that after he completes the American Idol tour that he would probably be heading to Nashville to look for work. It turns out that Bucky might not have to look for very long. According to a report in the Richmond County Journal, Sawyer Brown's management team called them looking for help in getting in touch with Bucky. The paper reports that the agency said they planned to offer Bucky a job.

In a recent conference call between Bucky and members of the media, a reporter from the Richmond County Journal told Bucky about the call from Sawyer Brown's management team saying 'they want to hire you right now.' Bucky responded 'That's what I heard. What happened to their singer?' The reporter didn't know and said he was just passing on the message.

Interestingly enough, Sawyer Brown originally got their big break on a reality singing competition called Star Search. There was no information reported on if Sawyer Brown's management team was interested in Bucky actually joining Sawyer Brown or if the offer was something else such as performing as an opening act for the band. Bucky is actually still under contract with American Idol, so American Idol management would have to give their blessing before Bucky could take advantage of any musical opportunities that came his way.

I don't really follow country but hasn't Sawyer Brown pretty much been over with for the past 10-15 years? Weren't they big like in 1984?

That's the year they won Star Search. In '96, they were named Top Vocal Group by the Academy of Country Music.

<piggy backing>

To me the lead singer defined Sawyer Brown and their success. Replace him with Bucky would be asinine; for both the resurrection of Sawyer Brown and for Bucky.

Don't they have 4 or 5 people who sing, with one of them designated 'lead'? I think Bucky might become one of the 4 or 5, not the lead.

I don't think so. The lead singer's voice was way too memorable for me to think of any other vocals in an SB song. I'm not saying that there weren't as I never owned a cd of theirs. But the songs that hit the country stations (the ones I knew) were always led by Mark Miller. It wasn't like the Eagles, meaning hit songs from 4 different yet equal leads.

That's still 10 years ago, a lifetime in the music industry.

Bucky would be a complete idiot to attach himself to a bunch of has beens who are twice his age. It would kill his career before it even got started.

The article says Sawyer Brown was interested in offering Bucky a job. The job is as an assistant roadie/bus mechanic. It didn't say anything about lead singer.

Thanks for playing

the rick
