Clay Aiken, (second season runner up) who has very recently become a dad is returning to the Broadway stage in the role of Sir Robin in Monty Python’s Spamalot.
He has sign to continue the role starting September 19th through January 4th.
Unofficial sources say that Clays presents on the cast has increased ticket sales immensely, and this is likely the most successful Broadway appearance by an ex Idol.
Season 3 winner Fantasia Barrino performed in The Color Purple, both Frenchie Davis and Tamyra Gray have or are appearing in Rent, Taylor Hicks in Grease, Diana DeGarmo in Hairspray and the list goes on and on.
There’s something about an Idol castoff that seems appealing to Broadway producers. It may be the instant stardom and playing off the instant success of the young stars. It definitely has to be a lot less expensive to bring in an Idol castoff than a big-time star, which also has been a formula used to try and increase ticket sales. (Think Mario Lopez in A Chorus Line.)
All that is left for me is to wish that 2009 is even a better year for Clay Aiken than 2008 has been, and obviously, it has been.
Nigel Lythgoe, One of the Founders of American Idol and the executive producer is stepping down, in order to concentrate fully on So You Think You Can Dance. Nigel Started his entertainment career as a dancer and choreographer and now seems to be heading back to his roots. He was very influential in American Idol and was involved in everything and anything from song selection to the selection of the top 24 participants so its hard to tell how his leaving will affect Idol.
Idol’s ratings have slipped in recent years and the show could use a bit of a rework. Perhaps they should look to the North and maybe incorporate some of Canadian Idol’s ideas - contestants using instruments during their initial auditions, for example. Change can sometimes be good!
Bo Bice has been Very busy lately and has had very little time to spend in Nashville with his wife Caroline and son Aidan who is almost 3 years old.
The Toledo blade says that since he came back from entertaining the U.S troopes depoyed in Afghanistan and Kuwait, Bice has been singing around the country, promoting his second album ‘See The Light’. The album, wich Bo co-produced and recorded in his own home studio and released under his own indie label, Sugar Money, gets him back to his musical roots.
“It’s really getting back to what I do,” he said in a soft drawl, explaining that he was not given the chance to be as hands-on with his inaugural album, “The Real Thing.” “If people dig the Allman Brothers and Lynard Skynard, and ZZ Top, they’ll really like the new album.”
I was really happy to read that, just about as happy as I was to read this
Bice also has another trip overseas planned to entertain the troops this fall between working on a TV show - the details of which he is keeping under wraps.
“I can’t let the cat out of the bag,” he said. “But all kinds of fun stuff is coming for 2009.”
Hmm. Can’t wait.

I’ve found The following quote on Clay’s Daily Double they search for mentions of Clay’s name and this time it was in a political context:
Obama tour staged for political pop
Wed Jul 23, 5:42 AM ET
JERUSALEM - Barack Obama doesn’t travel light. Halfway around the world, the Obama campaign machine appears as sprawling and seamless as it is on its home turf. As the presumptive Democratic nominee tours five countries in five days, he brings an entourage that would make a pop star envious.
A dozen top foreign policy advisers are either traveling with Obama or doing groundwork ahead of his arrival in each country. This group is supplemented by his usual contingent of almost a dozen traveling aides, including chief campaign strategist David Axelrod and communications director Robert Gibbs, and too many advance staff to count. With layers of Secret Service agents, they zipped through Amman Tuesday in a motorcade of 20 vehicles….
…But when the Arizona senator (McCain) traveled to Mexico and Colombia last month, he mobilized only eight staff members, including two foreign policy advisers, two press aides, two advance workers and two assistants to Cindy McCain, said campaign spokesman Brian Rogers.
“Who does he think he is?” Rogers asked of Obama. “Clay Aiken?” Fenn said the Obama’s traveling contingent was appropriate. “With such a high-visibility trip, with so many countries covered and so many press people covering the trip, the number of staff is not out of line,” he said….
